Yunyi Zhu

 

Coach Yunyi Zhu is a former China National Team singles athlete who competed at the highest levels of international professional badminton. After years of elite competition on the world stage, she made Southern California her home — bringing championship-caliber coaching to Irvine's vibrant badminton community.

PureKing Sports was founded with a single mission: to give every student — from young beginners to competitive teenagers — access to world-class technique and training methods in a supportive, outdoor environment.

Coach Yunyi Zhu is a former China National Team singles badminton athlete who competed at the highest levels of international professional play. After retiring from competition, she moved to Southern California and founded PureKing Sports to share her world-class expertise with the local community.
We welcome players from age 6 through adult. Our Foundation Program serves beginners aged 6–10; our Development Program targets intermediate players aged 11–14; our Performance Program is for competitive youth 11–18; and our Adult Fitness Program is open to all adult skill levels.
Outdoor training at Los Olivos Community Park is excellent year-round. Our courts are well-sheltered, and training in light wind actually builds better shuttle control, footwork adaptability, and court awareness — skills that transfer directly to indoor competitive play.
Athletic clothing, non-marking court shoes, a badminton racket, water bottle, and sunscreen. We supply shuttlecocks and all other training equipment. Beginners who don't own a racket yet can borrow one for the first session.
All PureKing Sports programs are registered through the City of Irvine Parks & Recreation portal. Visit the City of Irvine website, search for 'badminton,' and look for PureKing Sports programs. Spots fill quickly each season — we recommend registering as soon as the season opens.
We cap sessions at 12 students maximum per coach, ensuring every player receives individual feedback, personal attention, and meaningful correction every class. Your child will never be just a number in a crowd.
Absolutely — outdoor PureKing graduates have a significant technical advantage. The footwork patterns, stroke mechanics, and strategic thinking we teach are fully transferable. Many of our students have successfully entered indoor club and tournament play.
